Kajiado East residents get a 100-bed dormitory

Kajiado East Member of Parliament, Kakuta Ole Maimai, has commissioned a 100-bed capacity dormitory at Masimba Secondary School in Poka Kenyawa Ward, thus easing accommodation facilities challenges for students.

The dormitory, constructed through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), is expected to ease congestion in the school’s boarding facilities as well as boost infrastructural facilities in the school.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Maimai reaffirmed his commitment to investing in education across the constituency, stating that every school will benefit from NG-CDF-funded projects by the end of the year.

“By the end of this year, every school within the constituency will have at least one project funded through NG-CDF,” he said.

However, the legislator expressed concern over the school’s poor performance in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, noting that no candidate qualified for university admission.

“I have set aside nearly Sh30 million for university education in the constituency, but unfortunately, not a single student from this school will benefit because none qualified for university. That is not fair. We must improve performance,” he remarked.

While acknowledging that the community is increasingly embracing education, Hon. Maimai emphasized the need to match access with improved academic outcomes.

He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s academic progress every term to help identify and address learning challenges early.

The MP also raised concern over the shortage of teachers in several schools within the constituency and called on the Ministry of Education to urgently deploy additional teachers to enhance quality learning and improve performance.

The legislator further pledged to initiate a constituency-wide dialogue on education performance, focusing on solutions, accountability, and measurable results to ensure improved outcomes across all schools.
