Kenya has been crowned overall champions of the 22nd Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, which concluded Friday in Kakamega County.
Team Kenya collected a total of 63 medals: 21 gold, 24 silver, and 18 bronze to retain their dominance in the regional championship. Uganda followed closely with 48 medals (16 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze), while Tanzania finished third with nine medals. Rwanda settled for five medals, Burundi managed two, while Ivory Coast finished without a medal.
In the secondary school category, Kenya once again topped with 42 medals (13 gold, 16 silver, and 13 bronze), followed by Uganda with 39 medals (15 gold, 13 silver, and 11 bronze). Rwanda came third with four medals, Tanzania fourth with three, Burundi fifth with two, and Ivory Coast last with none.
Kenya also excelled in the primary school category, scooping 13 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze), while Uganda managed three. In the Special Needs Education (SNE) category, Kenya secured eight medals, including two gold, while Tanzania came second with three gold.
The games also saw individual schools and athletes shine:
Soccer Boys: Bukedea Comprehensive (Uganda) beat Musingu High (Kenya) 2-1 to lift the title. Businge Amis Yabili of Bukedea was named MVP.
Soccer Girls: St. Noa (Uganda) defended their title, with Agnes Mbukenye named MVP.
Volleyball Boys: Cheptil (Kenya) beat Namugongo (Uganda) 3-2 in a thrilling final. Namugongo’s Opoya William was named MVP.
Volleyball Girls: Kwanthanze Girls (Kenya) retained their crown, with Mercile Wabweile named MVP.
Basketball 5×5 Boys: ITS Kigali (Rwanda) lifted the trophy; Ashimwe Fabrice was named MVP.
Basketball 5×5 Girls: St. Noa (Uganda) emerged champions; Maxine Onyango was named MVP.
Basketball 3×3 Boys: APE Rugunga (Rwanda) won gold; David T was named MVP.
Basketball 3×3 Girls: Ngiya Girls (Kenya) triumphed; Cecilia Atieno was named MVP.
Handball: Kimilili Boys (Kenya) and Moi Girls Kamusinga (Kenya) lifted the titles.
Scrabble: Ntare School (Uganda) won the boys’ category, while Kahuhia Girls (Kenya) topped the girls’ event.
Rugby 7s: St. Peter’s Mumias Boys (Kenya) won gold; Jinja SS (Uganda) won in girls.
Rugby 15s: Kisii High (Kenya) were crowned champions.
Hockey: Kakungulu (Uganda) won the boys’ category; St. Joseph Girls Kitale (Kenya) won the girls category.
Badminton, Table Tennis, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Athletics, Goalball, and Netball also saw spirited contests, with Kenya and Uganda dominating most podiums.
The 2025 FEASSA Games brought together thousands of athletes from across East Africa, celebrating talent, resilience, and regional unity. The 23rd edition will be hosted in Tanzania in 2026.
