Kiambu County Set to Launch 32 New Hospitals by December 2025

Kiambu County Government is set to launch 32 new hospitals constructed at a cost of Sh2.6 billion, which are near completion and awaiting equipment installation ahead of the December 2025 operational deadline.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced that the health facilities are at the final stages of completion and ready for equipping.

The Governor made the remarks during an inspection tour of several hospitals across the county, including Thogoto Level Four Hospital and Gathiga, Gitaru, Uthiru, Gichuru, and Ndeiya Level Three hospitals located in Kabete, Kikuyu, and Limuru sub counties.

The ambitious healthcare expansion project represents a significant investment in improving medical service delivery across the county, addressing long-standing challenges faced by local residents who usually travel considerable distances seeking quality healthcare services.

During the inspection tour, Governor Wamatangi emphasised his administration’s commitment to completing the healthcare infrastructure projects within the stipulated timeline, highlighting progress made since taking office.

Ndenderu Level Three Hospital in the Ruaka area in Ndenderu Ward, Kiambaa Sub-County, which is now ready for equipping.

“Within those two years we’ve been in office, we made it our business to ensure that we’ve completed those health facilities. Today if you go to Kikuyu Hospital in Thika, it’s 95% complete, only awaiting a little extension to accommodate the doctors and other staff who will be working there, and the hospital will open,” he said.

The new healthcare facilities are strategically distributed across different sub counties to ensure equitable access to medical services for all residents. The project includes both Level Three and Level Four hospitals designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services ranging from basic medical care to specialized treatments.

The completion of these hospitals will significantly reduce the burden on existing healthcare facilities while bringing medical services closer to communities that have historically faced challenges accessing quality healthcare due to geographical barriers.

The Sh 2.6 billion investment demonstrates the county government’s prioritization of healthcare as a fundamental service, with the facilities expected to serve thousands of residents across Kiambu County once operational.

The December 2025 launch timeline indicates the county’s urgency in addressing healthcare accessibility challenges, with the new facilities expected to transform the healthcare landscape and improve health outcomes for residents.

Healthcare infrastructure development remains a key pillar of the county government’s development agenda, with these 32 hospitals representing one of the largest healthcare expansion projects undertaken in the region.
