Kikuyu Affordable Housing Open Week attracts numerous residents

The Boma Yangu Kikuyu Estate Affordable Housing Project launched its Open Week on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, offering residents, prospective homeowners, and buyers a unique opportunity to tour show houses and learn about homeownership. The event runs through February 21, 2026, at the project site in Kikuyu Town, a few meters from the Nairobi Southern Bypass near the Gitaru Interchange.

The Open Week was officially opened by Kimani Ichung’wah. Hundreds of residents attended, registering as prospective homeowners, viewing completed show units, and receiving on-site guidance on registration and homeownership under the national Affordable Housing Program.

In his address, Hon. Ichung’wah emphasised the transformative objective of the project: “Our main objective with affordable housing units is to make sure we alleviate the problem of housing. Today I welcome you here. We learn and get educated about housing.” He encouraged residents to explore available options and secure decent, modern homes for their families.

The Kikuyu project, a flagship under the government’s Boma Yangu Program, comprises 1,140 modern housing units across nine residential blocks. It serves diverse income groups through three categories: social housing for lower-income earners (rent-to-own studios from Sh640,000 with zero or assisted deposits), affordable housing for middle-income households, and market-rate units for higher-end buyers.

Available units include studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments starting from Sh3.6 million, while three-bedroom units are priced from Sh4.8 million. The development features modern amenities including ample parking, green spaces, children’s play areas, a borehole for reliable water supply, backup generator, secured boundary wall, cabro-paved driveways, and a commercial center to promote local entrepreneurship.

This first phase sets the foundation for the larger Muguga Agri City, which will deliver additional residential units alongside an integrated industrial, agri-processing, logistics, and commercial hub aimed at redefining modern mixed-use urban living.

The project has created thousands of jobs for young men and women, including 33 graduate interns engaged in a one-year on-site program.

As Open Week continues to attract enthusiastic crowds, stakeholders praise the initiative as a demonstration of people-centred leadership and tangible progress in addressing Kenya’s housing needs. Prospective homeowners are encouraged to visit the site, explore options via the Boma Yangu platform, or seek assistance with registration.
