In the heart of Kikuyu municipality, where rolling green hills meet the hum of progress, the Boma Yangu Kikuyu Estate is rising as a powerful symbol of hope and opportunity.
Brick by brick, this flagship project under Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) is turning long-held dreams of dignified, secure homes into concrete reality for families across the county and beyond.
Strategically positioned approximately 50 metres from the Nairobi Southern Bypass near the bustling Gitaru Interchange, the development enjoys unrivalled access to major transport corridors connecting Nairobi, the Central Region, and Western Kenya.
Its prime location ensures residents will enjoy seamless connectivity while remaining close to Kikuyu Town’s vibrant markets, schools, health facilities, and everyday conveniences.
The thoughtfully designed mixed-use community spans nine impressive residential blocks and will deliver 1,140 modern housing units consisting of one bedroom, two-bedroom, three bedroom and studio apartments.
Beyond the homes, the estate is being built as a complete, people-centered environment featuring lush green spaces, safe children’s play areas, a massive borehole for constant water supply, a commercial centre to support local businesses, playgrounds for community recreation, and a dedicated social hall to serve resident gatherings, events, and social life.
The project is not only constructing buildings but also creating jobs, building skills, and empowering the next generation.
More than 500 local youths are actively employed on site, gaining valuable experience in the construction industry, while structured internship programmes are providing emerging professionals with unparalleled hands-on training.
Speaking exclusively to KNA Kiambu, Clerk of Works, Frankline Koome, affirmed the strong forward momentum saying, “The progress is good now at 40 per cent. Currently, low works reported as the contractor awaits time extension, time elapsed is 104 per cent.”
The overrun of the original timeline is being addressed through formal extension procedures to guarantee that quality and safety remain paramount.
Mercy Muthoni, an intern attached to the AHP and a trained physical planning professional, could not hide her excitement: “I am gaining immense hands-on skills. Working on sites is an amazing experience, the beauty of seeing plans turn into reality is truly rewarding”.
The Kikuyu Affordable Housing Project stands shoulder to shoulder with Kiambu County’s impressive achievements in national development rankings, including excellence in agricultural value chains and significant funding under the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP).
It forms part of the wider national push that has seen over one million Kenyans register on the Boma Yangu platform and more than 262,000 units under active construction across all 47 counties.
