Kilonzo Jr distributes tents, chairs to Kee ward groups

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has distributed tents and chairs to seven self-help groups in Kee Ward, aimed at empowering the beneficiaries to fend for themselves and their families.

Mutula, who toured the area Thursday, presided over the distribution of tents at Kivani, where Wasya Wa Mwea, Kyandumbi Matuni, Muigo Wa Kaiti, and Watema Central welfare Association Self Help Groups (SHG), with a total membership of 1,315, were among those that benefited with a tent and 100 chairs each.

Other SHGs that benefitted included Kithima and Mbakandu in the Kyanduya area, where some of the groups are involved in various income-generating activities like funeral welfare and growing tree nurseries, among other undertakings.

“My government intends to empower various organised groups in order to uplift the lives of our people,” said Mutula during his development tour of Kee ward, where he also addressed a series of public barazas.

During the event that was held at Kivani primary school, the governor also issued 21 driving licenses to bodaboda riders who had undergone the training successfully with funding from the county government.

At the same time, Mutula disclosed that plans were at an advanced stage to expand Kivani dam so as to improve water access to members of the Watema community, thus ending the perennial scarcity of the precious commodity in the area.

During the tour,  county officials also distributed 20 wheelchairs and assorted assistive devices and 126 disability certificates to local PWDs at the Kee Social Hall.

The governor equally commissioned the newly constructed Kasunguni Modern early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre, noting that his administration is committed to providing quality early education for young learners across the county.

Speaking at the same event, Kee Ward MCA Urbanus Manzu commended the governor’s efforts, especially in extending electricity and water supply to residents of the Kivani-Kee sub-ward.

Also present at the event were the County Assembly Majority Leader Kasungi Wa Katete; County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Devolution Nicholas Nzioka and his counterpart for ICT, Education and Internship, Japheth Mang’oka; MCA Tulimani ward, Kyalo Mumo; his Ukia ward counterpart  Jackson Ndolo; and Bishop Jonathan Muthoka Ilima, among others.
