Kiriita soccer tournament kicks off

In an effort to involve hundreds of youths in Kiriita ward of Ndaragwa constituency in positive engagement, local leadership has launched a soccer tournament scheduled to run for two months.

According to Kiriita ward, MCA Milkah Wanjiru and Nyandarua FKF branch chairman Reuben Kaai, the Kiriita Community Shield League intends to engage the young people in safe, competitive youth soccer leagues owned and operated by leaders in their community.

They noted that the league is supported by well-wishers and other sponsors who have offered to support full seasons of league play and provide other incentives for teams whose players excel in school and service to the community.

They said that soccer is more than playing a game, noting that this is about empowering youth and creating opportunities.

During the playing sessions, the officials said they will be building a network of people who are dedicated to improving the lives of youth in their own community and enhancing social infrastructure, to promote education and equality through mentoring and community service.

During the inauguration of the soccer tournament, Abardare Hardnuts FC beat Starehe FC 3-0 during the match played at Mutanga stadium in Leshau shopping centre.
