At least 70 Redeemed Gospel Churches in the South Nyanza Region are making plans to consecrate their new regional Bishop Vitalis Odour, in an event that will be presided over by the denomination founder, Archbishop Arthur Kitonga.
Rev. Oduor, the senior Pastor of the Redeemed Gospel Church Oyugis, who is also the sub-regional overseer, will be consecrated on 29th November this year, when he will be taking over from Bishop Moses Chengo, who is reportedly retiring from the position.
Addressing the press in Oyugis town, Rev. Oduor said his new position will require him to oversee Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Nyamira Counties, and also some parts of Kisumu, up to Ahero Junction.
The cleric said the church was earnestly mobilising resources to hold the event in Agoro Sare High School in Oyugis town, as the church premises could not contain the high number of visitors expected to grace the occasion.
He noted that all the 16 regions of Redeemed Gospel Churches, each headed by a bishop, will be attending the event and welcomed all to also come and listen to the word of God, as per the vision of the church.
“The vision of the church is to preach the word of God and reach the unreached with the Good news,” he said.
The Reverend’s spouse, Emily Oduor, welcomed all denominations in the region, including those that are not under the Redeemed Gospel Church.
The Treasurer of the Church, Caroline Oundo, expressed optimism that the occasion would record a high attendance, requiring a huge amount of money, and thus appealed to friends and well-wishers to support the church either financially or through other tangible goods and services.
On her part, an Assistant pastor, Mary Othiambo, glorified God for what she termed as gracing the Oyugis church with a Bishop.
She explained that the position meant greater responsibility for every church member, who must now support the incoming Bishop to deliver on his mandate.
