Kisumu gears up for historic drift show

Kisumu is set to make motorsport history this weekend after the city announced it will host its first-ever drift show.

The event is expected to draw car enthusiasts and thrill seekers from across the region.

The Kisumu Drift Show, scheduled for Saturday, December 27, 2025, is being organised through a partnership between the City of Kisumu and Al Husnain Motors Ltd, marking the city’s maiden foray into professional drifting events.

City Manager Abala Wanga said the county had approved temporary road closures in parts of the city to allow for the safe staging of the high-octane motorsport show, which will involve controlled car drifting demonstrations.

In a public notice, Wanga said the closures would take effect on Saturday, urging motorists and pedestrians to cooperate with traffic police and city enforcement officers deployed to manage movement and ensure public safety.

“The City of Kisumu wishes to notify members of the public of a temporary road closure to allow for the safe and successful hosting of a car drift show. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as directed by traffic officers on duty,” Wanga said.

He added that the city had put in place safety and traffic management measures to minimise disruption while ensuring spectators and participants are protected during the event.

According to the organisers, the drift show will offer a unique motorsport experience rarely seen outside major urban centres, placing Kisumu on the national motorsport map.

Al Husnain Motors Manager Kashif Riaz said the event would deliver an adrenaline-filled spectacle for residents and visitors during the festive season.

“We have a very big surprise for the carnivores in Kisumu and we are going to have a very big event on Saturday, December 27, the Kisumu Drifting Show, so we invite all citizens to come and enjoy,” Riaz said.

The event is expected to attract hundreds of spectators, with city officials saying it aligns with efforts to promote Kisumu as a hub for sports, entertainment and tourism.

Authorities have advised members of the public to plan their travel in advance and follow guidance issued by traffic officers as the city hosts the landmark motorsport event.
