Laikipia county government partners with Outspan hospital to boost health services

Laikipia county government has partnered with Outspan Private Hospital to boost health service delivery for residents.

Speaking during the official opening of Outspan Private Hospital, Nanyuki Branch, Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu revealed that the partnership would entail specialized doctors’ services and use of diagnostic medical equipment for seamless services to patients. Outspan’s main branch is in Nyeri County.

“As a county, we are able to achieve 70 percent of health services delivery; however, we commit 40 percent of our budget on health. Despite all that, it’s difficult to fully address the health needs of our people,” said Irungu, adding that through collaboration with Outspan private hospitals, his administration would enhance health care.

Additionally, the governor pointed out that the partnership was a relief to patients who have been travelling to Nyeri and other areas to seek specialized medical services.

“Outspan hospital is not here for competition but to supplement the medical services which are lacking in our referral hospitals. We will have a memorandum that a patient will not suffer because they have been referred from public to private facility,” said the county boss.

On his part, Outspan Hospital Executive Director Godfrey Kiruhi said that the collaboration would further seek to address mental health challenges which were on rise in the region.
