Lari Affordable Housing Project progresses steadily

The Lari Affordable Housing Project, a key component of Kenya’s national Affordable Housing Programme, is making notable headway in Lari Ward, Lari Constituency, Kiambu County.

Implemented through the Boma Yangu platform by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, the initiative seeks to deliver modern, inclusive housing solutions to address the rising demand for affordable homes in the region.

By combining residential units with commercial spaces, the project promotes community-focused living, creates employment opportunities, and supports sustainable urban growth in peri-urban Kiambu.

The development, currently at the foundation level across its 7 blocks, has reached 30 per cent overall completion, with foundational activities dominating the site with works.

It encompasses a total of 687 residential units, comprising 40 one-room social housing units, 78 two-room social housing units, 40 three-room social housing units, 83 studio apartments, 187 two-bedroom apartments, 90 two-bedroom apartments, 70 three-bedroom apartments, and 90 three-bedroom apartments.

The project also features 9 rental shops to enhance local economic activity and community vibrancy.

The Clerk of Works at the site, Martin Mwaria, commended the construction standards. “The project is adhering to the standards and delivering quality work,” he stated.

He added that the project is going at a moderate pace, and the works should be enhanced in order to catch up with the deadline of January 2027 for example, by having a night shift worker.

Peter Muroki, an intern with the Affordable Housing and Urban Planning Specialist team, highlighted the broader significance of the initiative, saying, “The project is transformational, with a lot of opportunities coming along.

I also gain a lot of experience with the project as I work alongside seasoned professionals,” he remarked.

As foundational progress continues, the Lari AHP remains aligned with national targets to accelerate housing delivery and empower communities.

The project promises to provide quality homes, skill-building avenues for young professionals, and economic boosts through job creation in Kiambu County.
