Makueni County Assembly Clerk Kevin Mutuku has warned opinion and elected leaders against misusing youths for their political gains.
In this regard, Mutuku challenged the leaders with an agenda for the youth to instead come out and ensure they offer solutions that would uplift the lives of the young people in the county.
The Clerk who is also the Patron of Makueni University Students Associations (MUSA), said this during the swearing in of various officials of the association at Green Park Hall in Wote town on Saturday.
“I want to tell the elected leaders who intend to use our young people that their time is up. As long as I am overseeing this group, I will not give an opportunity to any politician to misuse the youth,” warned Mutuku.
“So, if you have no agenda for MUSA, don’t come with a personal agenda to mislead the young people,” he added while addressing the media after the swearing-in of the officials.
Consequently, Mutuku said, “we want leaders who can offer solutions for the students aimed at unifying MUSA with a view to mentoring them by exploiting the different talents to create jobs in an effort to improve their lives.”
“Here we have skills in arts and talents in artificial intelligence, music and sports. We want to ensure we tap all the energy and talents within MUSA so that we mentor our young people to become a success story in this county and the country at large,” noted Mutuku.
While saying that the reason he patronises MUSA is because he wants the best for the youth, he challenged them to vie for elective positions.
“Let us give an opportunity to the young people for these elective positions. I am here because I was given an opportunity against all odds. I have never been a bootlicker of any leader,” he posed.

Also, the Clerk advised the youth to be people of integrity and do things correctly for the world to recognise that there are young people ready for service anywhere.
“We just need to stand for integrity and do things right and present ourselves for opportunities. Then the world will recognise that there are young people out there who are ready for service,” Mutuku said.
Speaking at the same forum, the President of the Makueni University Students Association (MUSA), Daniel Kisila, said that they have petitioned the Makueni County Assembly to establish a Comrades Chamber at the Assembly that would discuss and agitate for policies that affect residents in the area.
Additionally, Kisila also wanted the Assembly to establish a Youth Advisory Board that would be fully funded and that would advise the Executive on matters concerning the county.
“Sometime in the past, we took a petition to the County Assembly to establish a Comrades Chamber where students will go and discuss issues affecting the people of Makueni,” Kisila said.
“Also, we took another petition, requiring the establishment of a Youth Advisory Board to advise the Executive (governor) on issues of the youth,” he added.
Among the officials who were sworn in on Saturday were President Daniel Kisila, Deputy President Sabina Mutunga, Secretary General Joseph Musyoki, Finance Faith Mutanu, Logistics Director Willy Mutunga, Administrator General Joy Kimeu, Person with Disability Representative Chris Makau and Executive Advisor Obadiah Titus.
