Makueni receives drug consignment to be distributed to health facilities

The Department of Health in Makueni has received a consignment of essential drugs to be distributed to all health facilities across the County, the Chief Officer (CO) for Health Services, Dr Harvey Mulei, has disclosed.

Among the drugs that will be distributed are those for diabetes and hypertension, antibiotics, injectables, painkillers, syrups and paediatric drugs.

“The drugs will be put in lorries on Friday (today) and be distributed to 16 Level Four Hospitals, County Referral Hospital and all health Centres and Dispensaries in the county,” said Dr Mulei during an inspection tour of the construction of the Maternity Wing at Sultan Hamud Level Hospital on Thursday.

“The drugs were purchased by the County Government of Makueni from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). We have also collaborated with KEMSA to ensure drugs are supplied on time to hospitals,” he added.

During the inspection, the Chief Officer revealed that the construction of the maternity Wing at Sultan Hamud Hospital is in partnership with Safaricom and would cost Sh60 million.

“We intend to commission the construction of the Maternity Wing of 50 bed capacity that will also serve children by November 2025,” he observed.

Also, the Spouse of Makueni Governor Anita Mutula toured the hospital to see its progress.
