Man succumbs to bee stings in roadside attack

A 39-year-old man died Thursday after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Lukuget village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The deceased, identified as Alex Kosgei, was reportedly riding his motorcycle past Kilangata Primary School when the bees attacked him.

Witnesses said Kosgei lost control of the motorcycle as he attempted to flee from the swarm, sustaining multiple stings on his body.

“It was a sudden attack. We saw him trying to shield his face, but there were too many bees. By the time we reached him, he was already unconscious,” said Rose Jeruto, a local resident who rushed to the scene moments after the incident.

Kosgei was taken to a nearby health facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Area Assistant Chief Amos Chebai confirmed an incident and advised residents to be cautious when passing areas containing bee colonies.

“We have had similar cases in the past, especially during this season when bees are easily agitated. We advise residents to avoid disturbing hives and report such locations to local authorities,” he said.
