Ishiara livestock market in Mbeere North Constituency was yesterday a beehive of activities after a delegation of senior government officials trooped to the market for a goat auction.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire led the government officials, including various Principal Secretaries and MPs from around the Mt Kenya region, in a colourful event aimed at uplifting the regional economy.
Governor Mbarire termed the auction a part of the government initiative of empowering small-scale traders and livestock farmers and also ensuring the huge amounts of money spent circulate within the area.
The event also served as a platform to drum up support for the UDA candidate in the upcoming Parliamentary by-election, Leonard Muthende.
Mbarire termed the initiative not a one-time event but part of broader government plans to revitalise markets and create sustainable income opportunities for the ordinary citizens.
“We are here to walk the talk of our campaign promises to uplift the lives of our people right from the grassroots,” she noted, adding that similar auctions will be rolled out in other markets across the county.
She called on area residents to support the government and the UDA candidate, saying a pro-government leader was the best bet for them in terms of development.
The leaders confirmed their intention to maintain a strong campaign presence in Mbeere North, vowing to continue pitching camp in the area until the by-election is held on the 27th of this month.
