Migori power penetration stands at 76 per cent in public institutions

Seventy-six per cent of Migori county public schools and institutions are connected to electricity,

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, has said.

Wandayi described the power penetration as a major milestone and achievement in the government target of promoting a conducive environment for learners.

The CS promised that the government will continue to connect power to public institutions and the public in general to the National grid to promote clean energy, promote learning activities and boost economic ventures.

Wandayi was speaking over the weekend during the official opening of a newly constructed Kanyimach Secondary School, in South Kamagambo Ward, Rongo Sub-County.

The CS, who also commissioned the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) Ondhong SDA Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP) at Karabare Village, in the same ward explained that the power connectivity will provide access to clean, stable and affordable power supply to residents of Karabare Village.

Mama Agnes Adoyo, whose house was connected to the power, thanked Wandayi for putting a smile on all the beneficiaries of her village, adding that the connectivity to the national grid will help her grandchildren do their homework on time as well as save on other energy costs.

CS Wandayi, who also visited Rongo University for the official groundbreaking of the new Rongo University College of Health Sciences, said that the government will continue to connect more residents across the country to the national grid to ensure every citizen enjoys the right to access clean, safe, reliable and affordable power supply.

Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Abuor said that power connectivity will create more jobs, empower youths and women to be socio-economically independent, and boost the economic standards of Migori County.
