Migori set to host 5th Piny Luo festival

Migori County is set to host the 5th Piny Luo festival to showcase the culture of the Luo people, their heritage, identity, norms, and practices.

Speaking to the press, the Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima said that this year’s edition of the Piny Luo festival would be different from previous editions due to the cosmopolitan aspect of the county.

He noted that Migori County is a multi-ethnic county with more than five communities, including the majority Luo and Kurian, as well as other communities like Luhya-Maragolis, Somalis, Subas and Kisi, forming a diverse community living alongside each other.

Olima said that the county would host various cultural extravaganzas, which would entail cultural exhibitions for non-Luos set to take place on December 10 and 11, 2025.

He said the event would be graced by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at Taranganya Boys High School in Kuria Region.

The Extravaganza, the first edition of its kind, will entail celebrating the cultures and traditions of the Kuria people, the Suba, Somali, Kisii, Luhya and any other non-Luo living in Migori County.

The official explained that the main event, the Piny Luo; a premier national and international event, would be hosted at Rongo University starting on December 15 and ending on December 17, 2025; there, the Luo community will showcase their culture.

The event promises to be a grand celebration of culture, with exhibits, performances, and showcases.

Olima invites everyone to attend the Piny Luo and Migori Extravaganza, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and unity. The festival will also feature cultural exhibits, music, dance, and art, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents.

The festival is a significant event for the Luo community, promoting cultural heritage and unity among the people. With its rich cultural displays and performances, the festival is a must-attend event for anyone interested in experiencing the vibrant culture of the Luo community.

The previous editions of the Piny Luo were held in the Counties of Kisumu, Siaya, and Homabay, with the 2024 edition being hosted in Siaya County.
