A middle-aged man has been arrested in Mororo, Tana River County for allegedly defiling a 6-year-old girl in the area.
Police from a nearby police post rescued the suspect – Muktar Iman Suka, from the claws of the mob who wanted to assault him for the act.
It is reported that this was not the first the suspect has been linked to such an incident. According to the residents, the suspect has previously faced similar allegations from other victims within the area, though no actions were taken.
Residents have expressed concern over his repeated involvement in such offences, calling for swift justice to ensure that victims receive the protection and support they deserve and ensure that justice is served.
Speaking to the press over the incident, Osman Wako, a local community leader stated that defilement cases and early pregnancies were on the rise in Mororo.
He also urged parents to remain vigilant and take extra care of their children now that schools are closed, emphasizing the importance of keeping them safe during this period.
“The suspect has been involved in more than one defilement case and this is the third time he is doing the same and yet no action has been taken,” Wako lamented.
He also pleaded to the authorities and everyone who will be involved in the case to act swiftly and ensure that justice is served, stressing that the community is watching for a fair and transparent resolution.
Ngui Mutuvya the chairperson of Kamba community Garissa and Tana River County pleaded with the authorities to ensure that justice is served and urged the residents of Mororo to stick together regardless of their tribe.
According to the local residents, defilement cases in the area have been on the rise over the past months and called on security agencies to take firm action against perpetrators.
The community remains hopeful that justice will be served, and parents urged to stay vigilant in safeguarding their children.
