MP spearheads distribution of bursaries in Kiambu

In a significant move to support education, Limuru MP Kiragu Chege has distributed bursaries totaling Sh15 million to learners in Ngecha and Tigoni Wards.

The initiative saw Sh6 million allocated to learners in general and Sh7.5 million set aside for students with disabilities, covering both day and boarding school fees.

The bursary handover took place at Ngecha Girls High School, where cheques were issued to local secondary schools including Ngecha Girls Secondary School, Gichuru Boys Secondary School, and Nyanjega Secondary School.

The event was attended by students, teachers, and parents attended the event, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on families and ensure uninterrupted education for learners from vulnerable households.

Speaking during the ceremony, Chege emphasized his administration’s commitment to fairness and equity in education.

“Education is the greatest equalizer. By committing Sh15 million in bursaries for both day and boarding schools, we are ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of school fees. Fairness, equity, and access to education remain our top priorities,” he said.

The event also included bursary registration for students in secondary boarding schools, colleges and universities, broadening access to financial support for higher education.

Local authorities praised the initiative, highlighting the role of community collaboration in its success.

In addition to bursaries, the ‘Tap to Eat’ feeding program continues to yield positive results, improving academic performance, school retention, and equality among learners. The program reinforces the critical link between nutrition and effective learning.

The bursary distribution underscores Ngecha and Tigoni Wards’ continued commitment to supporting education and ensuring that financial constraints do not deny any learner the opportunity to succeed.
