The Member of Parliament for Gichugu Constituency, Robert Gichimu Githinji, has officially launched the Huawei DigiTruck Programme at Gichugu Training and Vocational College (TVC), marking a significant step towards promoting digital literacy and online employment opportunities in the region.
The Huawei DigiTruck initiative implemented in partnership with Ajira Digital will provide 10 days of free training focused on Basic Digital Skills and Online Work Opportunities.

Launched in 2019 in Kenya under Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, DigiTruck is a mobile, solar-powered classroom equipped with internet connectivity, laptops, and smartphones.
It is operated from a used shipping container mounted on the back of a truck.
The DigiTruck travels to remote communities in Kenya, providing free training in digital skills to youth, empowering them to participate more fully in the digital economy.
Speaking during the launch, Gichimu commended Huawei and its partners for their commitment to bridging the digital divide, especially in rural areas.
He emphasised the importance of equipping young people with the technological skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-evolving job market.
“Technology is the future, and our young people must be part of it. Initiatives like the DigiTruck bring training right to the people, ensuring no one is left behind in the digital revolution,” said Gichimu
The College Principal Joseph Kimemia expressed gratitude for the programme, noting that it aligns with the institution’s vision to produce tech-savvy graduates ready to take advantage of opportunities in the digital world.
“This partnership opens new doors for our students and the surrounding community. We are proud to host a programme that transforms lives through digital empowerment,” Kimemia said.
Participants of the 10-day training will learn computer basics, internet safety, online freelancing, and digital entrepreneurship, among other skills.
The Huawei DigiTruck has so far trained thousands of youth across Kenya, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital inclusion agenda.
