The Mpesa Foundation is set to construct an ultramodern dormitory complex at Ramba High School, Rarieda sub-county, at a cost of Sh74 million.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at the institution, Mpesa Foundation senior manager Dr. Henry Kilonzo said the project targets to transform infrastructure in schools across the country.
“This year, the Mpesa Foundation is constructing one hundred and eighty-eight schools in all the 47 counties to ensure learners have a conducive learning environment,” said Kilonzo.
He disclosed that the decision to construct an ultra-modern dormitory in Ramba High School was reached following the demise of two students at the institution after the collapse of a cistern tank in March last year.
The Mpesa Foundation senior Manager said that the 416 bed capacity dormitory will have a new ablution block.
Kilonzo further disclosed that the facility, which features a resting lounge, has been designed with the needs of the current generation in mind to improve comfort.
The manager said that the Sh74 million project will be completed within 10 months and will be ready for handing over in November this year.
He challenged the students to take advantage of the conducive environment to improve their academic performance and asked the institution to take good care of the facility.
Area MP Dr Otiende Amolo, who was the chief guest during the event, expressed gratitude to the Mpesa Foundation for their gesture, saying it would ease congestion at the school and improve learning conditions.
