Murang’a Level 5 hospital gets a New CT scan machine to boost diagnostics services

The county government of Murang’a has installed a new CT Scan machine at the county Level 5 hospital to boost diagnostic procedures.

The existing machine experienced frequent breakdowns, thus forcing patients to seek services from facilities outside the county.

Launching the new machine, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania said this move will improve service delivery and ensure patients are serviced within the hospital without being sent to get scanned at other hospitals.

Munania described the installation of the modern 128-slice GE CT Scan Machine at the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital CT Centre as a landmark investment in the county’s health sector, noting that the advanced machine will greatly improve diagnostic services for thousands of residents.

He urged Murang’a residents to take advantage of medical insurance schemes, particularly the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), to ensure they can access specialized services like CT scans at an affordable cost.

With the launch of the 128-slice GE CT Scan Machine, Murang’a County is now better positioned to deliver timely, accurate, and life-saving medical services, reinforcing its commitment to universal health coverage, while promoting the well-being of all residents

The Deputy Governor reiterated that the county administration is committed to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people by procuring and installing modern machines in major local hospitals to boost healthcare provision.

“We aim to ensure that no resident of Murang’a has to leave the county in search of specialized treatment. This machine is a big step toward achieving that vision,” stated Munania.

On her part, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Florence Kagwaini, welcomed the installation of the equipment, saying it will be instrumental in detecting both cancerous and non-cancerous diseases.

Dr. Kagwaini explained that previously, patients were often referred to hospitals in Nairobi or other counties for CT scans, which were costly and time-consuming.

“With this machine, we can now handle most of those cases right here in Murang’a, saving patients the strain of traveling long distances,” she said.

The medic observed that the new 128-slice scanner replaces an older 64-slice machine and offers faster, clearer, and more detailed imaging.

“This advancement will help doctors make more accurate diagnoses in areas such as cancer, neurological disorders, cardiovascular complications, and traumatic injuries. It is also expected to reduce waiting times and improve treatment planning,” she added.

The installation of the scanner is part of a broader initiative by the county government to modernize Murang’a Level 5 Hospital into a top-tier referral facility.
