Mwaura calls for calm as govt probes blogger’s murder

The Government Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, has appealed to leaders and the public to keep calm as the government conducts an investigation to establish and bring to book the perpetrators of the murder of the late blogger, Albert Ojwang.

He confirmed the President’s firm stand on the issue, noting that the government, through its Multi-Agency Team of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and others, has taken a bold step in investigating the case and once the findings are made, the parties involved will face the law.

He spoke during the International Albinism Awareness Day Theme: “Demanding Our Rights: Protect Our Skin, Preserve Our Lives”, graced by First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto, at the Huruma Sub-County Hospital Grounds, Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The Government Spokesperson condemned the recent demonstrations witnessed in the country’s capital, Nairobi, that led to the destruction of property, including motor vehicles, dustbins and other properties.

He urged the people to embrace peace and make their views and opinions known to the government through peaceful dialogue and memoranda in order to reach out to a tangible solution peacefully.

“We are sorry for what happened as a government. But let’s pray also as the government continues to investigate. Let us not politicise the matter to settle political scores; nobody would wish to see his or her child killed but let’s give room to allow investigations to be done by IPOA,” he explained.

He said the President is a listening leader and is ready to hear what views Kenyans have and has already made his condolences to the family of the late Ojwang, as he reiterated that if there is anyone found culpable, then action must be taken against the person.

“Let us be sure: the instructions have been given and the directive is clear that we shall leave no stone unturned until we get justice for Albert Ojwang,” exclaimed the Government Spokesperson.

He warned the public, especially the youth, against the rumours claiming June 25 to be a holiday to mourn those who allegedly lost their lives during the demonstrations to oppose the Finance Bill 2024/2025, noting that such a day does not exist and that any public holiday is announced through the Ministry of Interior as per the Constitution.

Mwaura further affirmed that the Finance Bill 2025/2026 is citizen-friendly with no added tax and is designed to ensure tax compliance by defaulters, opening up more job opportunities for Kenyans and ensuring a decent life for all Kenyans.

“We have heard rumours going around that we are going to have another revolution on 25th June; that is not right. June 25th is a working day. We don’t want to see another ‘GZs moment’ in this country; let us embrace peace; let us not take it politically to cause chaos and disrupt peace in the country,” he said.
