Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu has underscored his administration’s commitment to expand and equip Vocational Training Colleges (VTC) in every ward to allow children who drop out of school to get a chance to gain skills for self-employment.
Ntutu spoke when he launched a modern twin workshop at Nairagie Enkare VTC, where he asked parents to take advantage of the institution to enroll their children who did not get a chance to join institutions of higher learning like colleges and universities.
Among the courses that are offered at the expanded vocational center are plumbing, motor-vehicle mechanics, and electrical installation training.
“As one of the devolved functions, strengthening vocational training and skill development centers remains one of the key agendas of the county government. We will expand and equip all centers in every ward so that our children will not have to walk for a long distance to get the much-needed skills,” reiterated the governor.
The centers are integrated with nationally accredited formal programs and competence-based training to produce graduates with relevant skills.
“Our aim is to produce graduates with practical knowledge and employability skills, to bridge the skills gap as well as meet the evolving demands of the job market,” he continued.
The Nairagie Enkare VTC has a student population of 174, most of whom are girls who dropped out of school because of early marriages and pregnancies.
Governor Ntutu promised that his administration will give bursaries to students from needy and vulnerable backgrounds to enable them to remain in school like any other students.
At the same time, Governor Ntutu handed over a new school bus to Ntulele Secondary School to ease students’ transportation challenges.
“A bus is a vital resource that extends beyond the classroom. It ensures safety, reliability, and timely travel for students,” said the governor.
The governor encouraged the students to concentrate on their classwork and produce good results in the National examinations, saying this is the only gift they can give to their parents, teachers, and entire community.
“We will be proud and celebrate your academic victory. This is the only thing we want from you,” said the governor.
Leaders and parents who spoke in the events commended the county government for prioritizing education development, underscoring that education is the key to success.
