New classroom block almost complete at Ngegu primary school

A four-classroom block is near completion at Ngegu Primary School in Kiambaa constituency, Kiambu County, marking a significant milestone in the county’s efforts to address overcrowding in public schools.

The modern two-storey block, featuring a distinctive yellow and blue color scheme, represents improved educational infrastructure, a crucial investment in creating a more conducive learning environment for students.

Dr Mercy Njagi CECM for Education in Kiambu said she was glad that the new block of four additional classrooms is almost ready, noting it was a step towards the county’s target of easing congestion in classes.

“This investment in education ensures our learners have a more conducive environment to thrive,” she said.

The new structure features spacious classrooms with large windows designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation, creating an optimal learning atmosphere. The upper floor includes a balcony area that not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also provides additional space for school activities.

Mary Njeri, the school’s head teacher, said that for years, we have been struggling with overcrowded classrooms where some pupils had to share desks or even sit on the floor.

“With these four additional classrooms, we can now properly accommodate our growing student’s population and ensure each child has adequate space to learn comfortably,” she said.

The construction project aligns with the government’s commitment to improving the overall quality of education in public schools.

The facility is expected to accommodate approximately 200 additional students, significantly reducing the current overcrowding situation.

Peter Mwangi, chairman of the school’s Board of Management, highlighted the broader community impact of the project.

“It’s about giving our children hope for a better future. Parents in this area have been concerned about the learning conditions, and now they can be assured that their children will receive quality education in a proper environment,” he noted.

School officials have confirmed that the facility meets all the required educational standards and safety regulations, ensuring that students will have access to a modern learning environment that supports their academic growth and development.
