New maternity unit to benefit Marioshoni mothers

The County government of Nakuru is in the process of increasing the numbers of health workers to help deliver services, most importantly in the maternity units.

This was confirmed by the county’s Chief Officer for Public Health, Joyce Ncece, who noted that currently, there is an ongoing recruitment process and once complete, the health workers will be deployed to the various health facilities to render the required services.

Ncece further said that there is a special focus on maternity units and Marioshoni is among the identified health centres that are to benefit from receiving the health workers.

This comes after the residents of Marioshoni asked the County government to speed up the process and allow them to enjoy maternity services at the health facility.

One resident, Mercy Korir, highlighted that the women have been accessing maternity services from Elburgon, Molo, and neighbouring Sub-Counties such as Njoro, thus making it an expensive affair whenever the need arises.

Korir said that expectant mothers who are almost due are expected to leave their home areas early enough to avoid any complications that may arise.

While lauding the effort by the county government to establish a maternity unit at the health facility, Korir emphasised that having qualified personnel to offer quality care and better services round the clock is crucial.

The county government has made significant strides in enhancing the maternity services offered to the public by equipping hospitals with the required facilities, timely distribution of drugs, opening new maternity facilities, among other interventions, thus reducing the maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

Located within Molo sub-county, Marioshoni health facility is a level two hospital with a capacity of 10 maternity beds. The facility provides outpatient services, family planning, child immunisation, antenatal care, among other services.
