New Mwea Huduma Centre set for operations

Mwea Huduma Jitume Centre in Kirinyaga County is awaiting final inspection by the Huduma Centre Secretariat before it is fully equipped and operationalized.

Once complete, the facility will offer a wide range of government services under one roof and will include modern Jitume Labs with the capacity to accommodate more than 140 users at a time.

This will become the second Huduma Centre in Kirinyaga County, complementing the existing one in Kerugoya.

The new center, constructed by the national government in collaboration with the Mwea Constituency NG-CDF, is expected to significantly enhance service delivery by bringing government services closer to the people.

Speaking to KNA, Mwea East Division Assistant County Commissioner Mwenda Munene said the government’s primary goal is to serve the people efficiently.

He noted that the Huduma Centre model ensures convenience, transparency, and cost-effectiveness by consolidating services in one location.

“With all government services available under one roof, wananchi will save time and money while accessing services in a transparent manner,” said Munene, while thanking the government for establishing the facility, which he said will make work easier for both citizens and public servants.

The Mwea Huduma Centre is also expected to play a key role in supporting the growing business activities in Mwea Town, an area widely known for rice production and trade.

Residents have welcomed the development, terming it a major relief. A Mwea resident, Mercy Njoki, said locals were initially forced to travel to Kerugoya or Embu to access vital services such as licenses and birth certificates.

“We have been travelling long distances to get important documents, but this new center will greatly ease access to these services,” she said, adding that the center is also expected to create job opportunities for local residents.

Another resident, Sisha Nyagah, noted that the project had already benefited the community during the construction phase by providing employment opportunities for youth and boosting local businesses such as hotels and food vendors.

The Jitume Centre will also provide free digital skills and access to online jobs for Mwea and its environs, hence bridging the digital divide and boosting employability in the knowledge economy.
