New roads expected to spur economic growth in Tharaka Nithi

Tharaka Nithi County residents and leaders have lauded the national government for the ongoing construction of key road projects, affirming that the roads will greatly improve connectivity and spur area development.

Mukothima MCA, Luke Marengo, asserted that the 34-kilometre Miomponi–Mukothima–Gatunga Road, which leads to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s Irunduni home, will not only improve transportation but also boost economic activities in the area.

“This project will open up Mukothima to more investment opportunities and improve the delivery of goods and services. We are satisfied with the progress so far and believe it will be completed on time,” he said.

MCA for Mariani Ward, Anita Karimi, noted that the ongoing Five-Kilometre Kaanwa–Chuka–Kamutiria Road in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency will open up the area and boost agricultural production as well as transportation of farm produce and other goods.

“This is a long-awaited project. Once completed, it will reduce travel time, enhance trade, and improve access to essential services like health and education. The work is meeting our expectations so far,” she said.

Chuka Technical and Vocational College Principal, Peter Rubia, said the Kaanwa–Chuka–Kamutiria Road will greatly ease access to various institutions and markets in the area.

“This road will greatly improve access to our institutions and create more opportunities for businesses and farmers. We appreciate the government’s commitment to infrastructure development,” he said.

John Njagi, a resident along the Miomponi–Mukothima–Gatunga Road, said the project is progressing well and will transform many livelihoods.

“We are pleased with the progress and quality of work. This road will connect villages to markets and bring real change to our lives,” he said.

Silvester Chabari, a resident of Marimanti, thanked the government for giving locals opportunities to benefit from non-skilled jobs and called for the quick revival of the stalled Chiakariga–Marimanti–Gatunga Road project.

“It’s good that local people are being considered for casual jobs during construction. I also appeal to the government to resume work on the Chiakariga–Marimanti–Gatunga Road so that development can reach all areas,” he said.

He said the road, once completed, will ease access to services at the county headquarters in Kathwana town.
