Learners at St. Joseph Nyamosense School for the Deaf in Mabera Sub-county-Migori, can now enjoy improved accommodation after the official handover of two newly constructed dormitories.
The Sh4 Million project with a capacity of 100 beds was funded by the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK), to give hope and education, in line with supporting students living with disability.
NFDK Trustee, Prof Francis Kibera, explained that the project is a major education milestone for students with disability in terms of pursuing their education dreams.
He expressed joy and a deep sense of responsibility from the NFDK team in joining the school community to celebrate what he described as a significant education milestone.
“We are handing over a completed boarding facility, a symbol of new possibilities for learners with disabilities and hope to the surrounding community,” said Kibera.
The official added that the completed dormitory projects will provide a safe place where students can rest, bond, share experiences, and build friendships that will last a lifetime.
He also emphasised that the new facilities will help reduce congestion in the boarding facility, to give students a conducive environment to perform well in school.

“With these new facilities, learning will be enhanced, enrolment will increase, and students will be retained in school,” said Kibera.
He also called on more stakeholders to embrace an inclusive approach that meets both the communication and learning needs of students with disability, to empower them education-wise, through improved sign language, visual learning aids, and a curriculum designed to support their development. Chair Programmes Committee of Board of Trustees, NFDK, Prof. Julia Ojiambo, urged all stakeholders to keep working together to build a future where no child is left behind.
Ojiambo called on parents to bring their children to the learning center, to give education opportunity to their young ones, for their future economic empowerment.
Esina Sasio, the School Principal, thanked the NFDK and the community for standing with the school and giving hope to children living with disability.
Sasio, however, called upon more willing partners to come on board and assist the institution to become a beacon of hope to children living with disability.
The establishment of the dormitory project at the St. Joseph Nyamosense School for the Deaf is the fifth flagship project that NFDK has funded in Migori County, demonstrating its continued commitment to improving learning conditions for children with disabilities.
