Police in Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County have arrested two drug trafficking suspects and recovered 23 stones bhang, whose value is yet to be determined.
According to a police statement, the suspects, a Kenyan driver and a Ugandan passenger, were travelling in a lorry, and tried to evade a police roadblock when flagged down at Ahero town along the Kisumu Kericho highway.
The vehicle was eventually intercepted and suspects arrested at the Ngere area along the Kisumu–Kericho highway following a high-speed chase.
“The driver sped off but was pursued and intercepted at Ngere. In the vehicle were 23 packs of bhang,” the statement said.
The narcotics were found concealed in yellow polythene bags, confiscated and preserved as exhibit.
Both suspects are currently in custody as the exhibits await weighing and sampling ahead of their arraignment in court.
The confiscation is part of a broader regional crackdown on drugs and illicit brews, which has seen authorities seize and destroy thousands of litres of illegal and contraband liquor.
Police stressed a zero-tolerance approach to traffickers, regardless of status, in pursuit of a safer and drug-free country.
