Nyanza Region will firmly remain in government and support President William Ruto as per the wish of the late former Prime Minister and ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS), Opiyo Wandayi has affirmed.
Speaking at Opoda farm, the home of the late Raila, Wandayi said that the residents were committed to respecting the wishes of Raila Odinga who passed away on Wednesday, October 15,2025, while undergoing treatment in India.
“Baba left us in government under the leadership of President William Ruto and that is where we are going to stay till the end,” declared CS, adding that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), will continue working closely with the United Democratic Alliance to achieve the Broad-Based Government’s goals.
CS Wandayi said that Nyanza region, and ODM party in particular is going to walk step by step with the President up to and beyond 2027.
The CS at the same time hailed the appointment of Dr. Oburu Odinga, as the interim party leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He said that Oburu, the Siaya Senator had the experience composure and political acumen to steer the Party to greater heights.
Wandayi urged the party leadership to convene the National Delegates Conference immediately after the grand send-off of the late Raila Odinga, to confirm Oburu Oginga to the position.
He called on Nyanza residents to extend warm hospitality to the many guests expected from across the country and beyond, adding “We want this funeral to send a strong message, not only to Kenyans, but to the entire world that we, the people of this region, remain united, organized, and committed to the ideals espoused by Baba,” Wandayi said.
