Ombudsman urges Kenyans not to bribe to get government services

The Commission on Administrative Justice has warned Kenyans against giving bribes in order to get government services.

The commission has also warned government officers who ask for bribes in order to serve Kenyans.

Speaking in Kakamega, during an open day for the commission, the CAJ’s Chairperson Charles Dulo urged those who are denied government services to report to the commission immediately.

He assured that the commission is ready to handle such cases and to take action against those who deny Kenyans services which they are entitled by the constitution.

Dulo raised concern that a section of residents has complained against being forced to pay bribes in order to get services from the lands department.

He said brokers at the lands department in Kakamega demand bribes blocking those seeking services of selling or buying land from accessing the relevant officers

Dulo said the commission will follow up with the land registrar and escalate the matter to the Principal Secretary for Lands and the Cabinet Secretary in charge of lands.

The open day was meant to create public awareness, receive complaints and offer legal aid to residents of Kakamega County

The open day is part of the commission’s strategy of taking its services to the grassroots.
