Over 1,750 youth from Vihiga County are set to benefit from the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project that is set to empower them economically and improve youth employability.
Speaking Monday during NYOTA project sensitization meeting held in the DIDC hall in Vihiga, Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service and Huduma Capital Development Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya called on National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to reach out to the youth to ensure they understand the project and apply to benefit accordingly.
She regretted that NYOTA project phase one did not take off well, urging the NGAO officials to ensure that phase two kicks off immediately through aggressive sensitisation in their areas of jurisdiction.
She commended the president for coming up with such an initiative that would improve the lives of youth across the country.
She called on youth from Vihiga County to take advantage of National Youth Service and enroll so that they could benefit from government training and attain skills that would help them in future.
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise / NYOTA project Director Vihiga County Philip Nyange Maube said the 1,750 youth who were to benefit are drawn from all the 25 wards of Vihiga County.
Maube added that each of the youth would get Sh50,000 out of which Sh6,000 would go towards their savings with National Social Security Fund saying this would inculcate a saving culture in them.
The PS explained that they were partnering with NSSF, NITA, NEA and the Ministry of Youth Affairs to ensure that the NYOTA project is successful.
He said the youth should apply for the NYOTA project by dialing *254# and following the prompts and register by following the due process.
NYOTA project is a Sh5 billion project that will benefit 70 youth from each of the 1,450 wards in the country.
