Over 8,000 households to be connected to electricity

Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to connect at least 8,000 households in Baringo County to the national electricity grid under the last mile electricity connectivity project.

He told an economic empowerment programme in Baringo South Constituency that the government was working on modalities to double the allocation for the project from Sh 783 million to around Sh 1.5 billion in order to accommodate more beneficiaries.

He was referring to the case of Baringo South Constituency where about 525 houses has been earmarked for the programme yet 1,200 houses in rural and underserved areas still require electricity.

“We have agreed with the six legislators from Baringo to see to it that we double the funding for electricity in order to increase the coverage from 4,000 to 8,000 houses,” he said.

Kindiki who presided over the event said increased access to reliable and affordable electricity will not only improve the social wellbeing of the people but also reduce disparities between rural and urban areas.

The DP assured residents that all stalled roads including 100 Kilometres Marigat-Mochongoi-Karandi tarmac road will be completed in time after a new contractor was identified.

He noted the significance of such roads which are connecting neighbouring sub counties and counties saying it will open up the area and promote businesses.

Kindiki while drumming up support for Kenya Kwanza administration under the leadership of President Dr William Ruto stated that they have a clear vision in energy, infrastructure, health, education as well as empowerment for women, youth and people living with disability.

During the event that saw the President and his deputy contribute a whopping Sh 4.2 million, a total of Sh 14.8 million was raised for 385 registered groups in Marigat Sub County.
