Narok East Sub-County Legislator Ken Kiloku has announced that there would be a three-day mop-up exercise starting tomorrow to track all learners expected to join grade 10 in the senior school level as the government intensifies efforts to enforce 100 per cent transition.
Speaking at Nairega Nkare National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) offices during the verification exercise of the constituency bursary application, Kiloku said that it was unfortunate that a significant number of learners expected to join senior school were still at home yet the law is clear that they should be in school.
The legislator called upon parents and guardians to take responsibility and ensure that their children report to school, insisting on the need to uphold the government’s policy on 100 per cent transition.
The MP said that the exercise would be conducted in collaboration with the local administrators to help identify and support all eligible learners yet to report.
All students expected to join the senior school but still at home were urged to also ensure that they report to the area Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) office so that arrangements are made for them to be distributed to schools.
He emphasised the need for conducting sensitisation on the importance of education and the continuous learning process so that the children are able to maximise their potential through education.
Parents present during the verification process thanked the legislator for relieving them of the financial burden through the school fee support, saying that offering the bursaries has constantly kept their children in school.
Stephen Lesope, a small-scale trader who applied for a bursary for his two children, said Kiloku’s constant concentration on education matters has enabled learners from vulnerable families to pursue their academic goals.
Another parent, Lucy Maina, a casual labourer, noted that they do not take this chance for granted and are committed to ensuring that their children study to better their lives.
