Pastors vow to boycott funerals that allow disco matanga

Evangelical pastors in Mumias East in Kakamega have vowed to boycott funerals that allow disco matanga.

Speaking during a funeral service on Saturday, the chairperson of the Council of Churches for Mumias East, Livingstone Washali, said disco matanga has led to lawlessness and a rise in teenage pregnancies, necessitating their resolve.

Washali, who pastors at New Faith Evangelical Church Shianda, said it is time the church took part in ending the vice to protect the youth and society from moral decay.

He said they have agreed with the area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) to work together to protect society, adding all local pastors have agreed not to participate or officiate burials where disco matanga is allowed.

Pastor Washali called on the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to issue burial permits only when a body is being released from the mortuary for burial.

He urged all pastors from Mumias East to organize forums to guide the youth to obey the law and focus on improving their lives. “We will not allow our youth to be careless or engage in harmful behaviours that could destroy their lives,” he noted.
