Peter Mbogo sworn in as nominated MCA in Murang’a County Assembly

Peter Mbogo was on Tuesday sworn in as a nominated Member of the Murang’a County Assembly in a colorful ceremony held at the County Assembly Chambers.

Mbogo, who was nominated by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, fills the seat left vacant following the death of nominated MCA Mark Wainaina last year.

His swearing-in was presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly and witnessed by the Deputy Governor, Members of County Assembly, senior county officials, party representatives, family members, and members of the public.

Mbogo took the oath of office administered by the Assembly Clerk, pledging to serve the people of Murang’a with diligence, integrity, and commitment. The chamber erupted in applause as he signed the official documents and was officially declared a member of the Assembly.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Mbogo expressed deep gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting him with the opportunity to represent the people of Murang’a.

He also recognized the role played by the late Wainaina in community development and vowed to uphold his legacy.

“I sincerely thank UDA for this honor. I have served in various roles within the county government and party structures and I believe this new role presents a greater opportunity to directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.

Murang’a Deputy Governor Stephen Munania, who graced the ceremony, congratulated Mbogo and described him as a disciplined and patient leader whose journey to the Assembly had been shaped by years of dedication to public service.

“Mbogo is a product of patience and consistency. From his earlier role as Jubilee Party County Chair to serving as Personal Assistant to the Governor, he has remained steadfast in service. His nomination is not only deserved but also timely,” Munania said.

The Deputy Governor encouraged the newly sworn-in MCA to use his experience and networks to champion legislation that will spur development in the county.

Majority Leader of the County Assembly, Francis Kibe, also congratulated Mbogo and assured him of support from the other members of the Assembly. He described Mbogo as a seasoned political organizer and administrator with a deep understanding of the people’s needs.

“I have known Peter Mbogo for many years, especially during his time as the Jubilee Party County Chair and later when he worked closely with the Governor. He is a man who listens and gets things done. I believe he has the potential to be a strong voice in this Assembly,” Kibe said.

The Speaker of the Assembly welcomed Mbogo into the house and encouraged him to quickly acquaint himself with the workings of the legislative arm. He announced that an orientation and induction programme will be held to help him understand the Assembly’s procedures, rules of debate and committee structures.

“As a new member, you will undergo orientation and induction so that you can fully participate in committee work and plenary sessions. The Assembly operates under strict rules and procedures and we want to ensure you are well-equipped,” the Speaker said.

Mbogo now joins the Assembly at a time when key debates on budget implementation, public participation, and oversight are taking centre stage. He is expected to contribute actively in legislative matters, especially those touching on youth empowerment, governance, and development planning.

His nomination is viewed by many as a strategic effort to reinforce party leadership within the County Assembly, especially given his past experience in political mobilization and administrative work.
