Phones seized as DCI probes KCSE cheating cases in Marsabit

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating two separate incidents of suspected KCSE examination cheating in Marsabit County.

The alleged incidents involve 17 candidates in two secondary schools who were found by KNEC officials with mobile phones during exam time.

In the first incident, 9 candidates were caught with mobile phones on as they sat for the chemistry paper one at Sessi Secondary School in Moyale sub-county.

The other incident occurred at a private candidates’ examination centre in Marsabit Central sub-county, where 8 of them were found with cell phones during exam time.

Marsabit Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) David Saruni said the eight cellphones were confiscated and handed over to the police as investigations commenced.

Saruni added that the candidates would continue with the exams as they awaited the outcome of the analysis of their phones by the DCI.

Moyale Sub County Director of Education Safina Adhi similarly confirmed that the police had taken possession of the 9 mobile phones from the candidates to aid in investigations.

Following the incident, the DCC warned of dire consequences should anyone be found engaging in exam malpractices.
