PS Kere Imbunya distributes relief supplies to schools in Vihiga

The Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, has toured various learning institutions in Vihiga County where she spearheaded the distribution of essential relief supplies aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of vulnerable learners.

The visit, which is part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s ongoing commitment to inclusive development, focused on improving learning conditions in underserved and marginalized communities. Items distributed included sanitary towels, bags of rice and beans, mattresses, and blankets, targeting both nutritional and hygienic needs of students.

Beneficiary institutions included Muhudu Secondary School, Imusutsu Secondary School, and Kaimosi Special School. The intervention specifically addressed the needs of girls, learners with disabilities, and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

While addressing school heads and education stakeholders during the visit, Dr. Imbunya emphasized the importance of transparency and equity in the distribution of the supplies.

“This initiative is about dignity, showing our young people, especially girls and children with special needs, that the government sees and values them and wants to give them a fair shot at success,” said Dr. Imbunya.

She underscored that while such relief efforts are impactful, more collaborative action is needed to holistically address challenges facing young people across the country.

“But this is just a portion of what needs to be done. For our youth to truly thrive, all ministries must work together and align their efforts to address the complex challenges facing young Kenyans.”

Dr. Imbunya also appealed to local communities to maintain peace and unity, noting that sustained development can only be achieved in an environment of cooperation and stability.

“I want to urge residents of Vihiga to maintain peace and unity, since, the future of our children depends not only on government interventions, but also on how we relate and support one another as a society,” she added.

Thus, this outreach aligns with the broader Kenya Kwanza administration’s policy on inclusive development, which prioritizes youth, women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups as key beneficiaries of government social protection and empowerment programs.
