PS Muoria urges TVET graduates to seek opportunities abroad

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary (PS), Esther Muoria, has encouraged learners to leverage their acquired skills to seek opportunities outside the country.

Speaking as the Chief Guest during the inaugural Graduation Ceremony of Kakrao Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Suna East Sub-county, where 422 students graduated, PS Muoria emphasized that technical skills open doors, to global opportunities that can uplift graduates’ lives.

Representing the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, she noted that the government has entered into agreements with other countries, particularly in the Middle East, to create platforms for employment and career growth for TVET and Technical Training Institute (TTI) graduates.

PS Muoria also encouraged graduates to seek employment on  the ongoing government projects requiring technical expertise, such as Affordable Housing and market construction initiatives.

“Nothing comes on a silver platter; you must actively pursue the opportunities the government provides,” she urged the graduates.

She further advised students to be passionate about their professions, noting that genuine interest enhances skill application and career growth.

“If you do something you love with passion, you do it well, and that will market your skills and technical capacity,” she said.

PS Muoria applauded the management of Kakrao TVC for shaping the Institution into a model of excellence, vision, and relevance.

She also highlighted the college’s climate-smart initiatives, including rainwater harvesting systems and income-generating projects, as examples of sustainable and modern TVET practices.

“Kakrao TVC is demonstrating how innovation, skill development, and practical projects can positively impact both students and the wider community,” she said.

Kakrao TVC Principal, Felix Odhiambo, encouraged the 422 graduates to market the Institution positively to attract new students.

“By showcasing your skills and technical know-how, you inspire others to join and contribute to the County’s social and economic development,” he said.

Odhiambo further urged graduates to focus on creating employment opportunities rather than only seeking white-collar jobs, emphasizing that entrepreneurship can strengthen the county’s economic base.

PS Muoria also reaffirmed the national strategy to strengthen Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), Dual Training, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as anchors of Kenya’s skills revolution under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The Ceremony highlighted the importance of equipping TVET graduates with practical skills, global exposure, and entrepreneurial mindsets to enhance employability, economic participation, and sustainable development across the region.
