Nairobi County National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) are being encouraged to maintain public courtesy and respect while performing their duties as the face of the government.
The Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC), Gilbert Kitiyo reminded the officers that they are the servant of the people and should always render services and to avoid acting as bosses.
“As public servants, you are to serve and deliver to the best of your ability and to the satisfaction of your subject, this calls for you to always carry yourself with utmost dignity as you are the face of the government,” said Kitiyo.
The RC who was accompanied by the Nairobi County Commissioner David Wanyonyi was speaking to NGAO administrators and Departmental Heads from Dagoretti South, Dagoretti North and Westlands Sub Counties during a familiarization tour he made in the areas to acquaint himself with the administrative areas and officers.
On security, the RC urged administrators to create a conducive business environment in their jurisdiction, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding lives and property of the people as custodians of security.
He said if they plan, organize and execute their mandate well they will curb criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Kitiyo encouraged public servants working in those areas to embrace the culture of sharing information, on matters affecting the public with their counterparts in order to address such issues effectively, and ensure safety of all Kenyans and stability of the nation.
“You should work as a team and build synergy in order to discharge your duties to the public effectively,” he emphasized, and advised them to have monthly meetings to review their programmes and projects.
He also urged the officers to be effective in monitoring and evaluating government funded projects and programmes, noting that their keenness will identify and detect areas that need to be addressed.
However, the RC mentioned that the government spends a lot of money on the projects and programmes and as such should have value for its money.
“Through monitoring you will prevent the displacement of projects that are on that site and the implementation of the projects are done as per the specifications agreed,” he added.
He also urged chiefs and their assistants to always engage the public on the going government development projects, so that as beneficiaries they can fully participate singling out the SHA, Agriculture, Climate WorX, Junior Secondary School construction works, cash transfer fund for the elderly, job recruitment, affordable housing and 100 percent transition.
