Refrain from politicising development projects, PS Muthoni

Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary (PS) Mary Muthoni has urged leaders in Kirinyaga County to stop politicising national government development projects in the region.

Speaking during a church service at St. Mary’s Consolata Mbiri Church in Gichugu, PS Muthoni emphasised that nearly all previously stalled projects have now resumed, and the government is committed to ensuring their completion.

She cautioned, however, that continued political interference could derail progress.

Among the key projects currently underway in the county are road construction, last-mile electricity connectivity, construction of modern markets, and affordable housing initiatives.

Highlighting the transformative impact of the affordable housing project in Kianyaga, PS Muthoni noted its positive impact on local business and economic activity.

She added any additional development projects that could further revitalise the town.

Distancing herself from recent political disputes, the PS reaffirmed her commitment to supporting and advancing government initiatives that benefit the public.

“As a Principal Secretary, I am focused on delivering development to all Kenyans, and I will continue to advocate for projects that improve lives,” she said.

Her remarks come in the wake of growing tensions among local politicians over the proposed site for a new Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in the county.

While some leaders are pushing for the facility to be located in Kirinyaga Central near Kerugoya Referral Hospital, others are advocating for its construction in Gichugu, neighbouring the Kianyaga Level 4 Hospital.
