Register for SHA and seek treatment, Elgeyo Marakwet residents urged

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has called on area residents to register for SHA and seek health services from any of the 131 public health facilities in the county.

Rotich assured residents that the county government had ensured that there were enough drugs in the facilities adding that the facilities will remain open during the festive season.

“If you fall sick, don’t hesitate to seek treatment from any of our health facilities, the medical staff are on duty waiting for you while the county has ensured that we have adequate drugs.

The governor was speaking in his office in Iten when he received a consignment of drugs from the Kagoech Foundation which is run by long time ODM politician Micah Kigen to be distributed to five high-volume facilities of Biretwo, Simotwo, Kocholwo, Flax and Chepkorio.

Rotich said his government was open to receiving any kind of support from all residents saying while they are free to critique the government, they should equally be open to offering solutions to the various challenges facing the county.

“Running a county is not easy and requires the efforts of all of us to succeed, I am therefore calling on professionals not to just criticize us but also to be part of the solution to the many challenges facing us,” he said.

Kigen who has undertaken to run two medical camps in the county called on residents who had been diagnosed with various illnesses in the medical camps and could not access drugs to acquire them now that his organization had provided drugs to the health facilities.

He said while the two medical camps had been organized for selected areas, next year he would ensure that they cover the whole county adding that he would reach out to various partners both locally and internationally to support the initiative.
