All public schools have been directed to shift their procurement process to the Government digital portal popularly known as E-procurement (EGP) whenever they source goods and services.
Speaking at Esumeyia Secondary School in Kakamega County, Basic Education Principal Secretary Amb. Prof Julius Bitok asked all schools to move their procurements to the new system, adding this will assist in accountability.
“Schools are public entities and as such, they will move with other arms of government to the E-procurement portal (EGP),” Amb. Bitok said.
PS Bitok took time to address issues on discipline in public schools, saying there are many cases being reported that are not in line with school regulations.
Listing the unbecoming behaviors, PS Bitok said corporal punishment and sexual harassment in schools will not be tolerated.
“I have sent officers to Marsabit to investigate an alleged case of corporal punishment meted out on learners in one of the schools in that county; once it is established, the law will take its course,” the PS said.
His sentiment on outdated corporal punishment in schools met resounding reception from learners, who also opposed a return of caning.
On sexual molestation reported in schools, the PS said speedy investigations will be done to allow the relevant agencies to take action.
He was accompanied by two other Principal Secretaries, Dr Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, PS East Africa Affairs, and Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, PS for Higher Education.
