The ‘Senior Chief’ Road in Kiambaa is nearing completion as tarmacking works progress steadily.
The 380-meter road construction is part of the Kiambu County Government’s ambitious infrastructure development program, where Sh 3.2 billion has been allocated for road construction projects across the county to improve connectivity and boost economic activities.
The completion of this road will significantly benefit the local community, including residents of the Senior Chief area, students and staff at Kiambaa Primary School, Kiambaa Secondary School, and Senior Chief Girls High School, who have struggled with poor road conditions especially during rainy seasons.
Githua, the contractor in charge of road construction in the area, confirmed that the project is progressing well despite previous challenges that led to the prolonged stalling.
“We are committed to delivering quality work. The 380-meter stretch is now being tarmacked and we expect to complete the project soon. This road will transform the area completely,” he said.
Irene Wanjeri, an engineer who was on site supervising the construction works, emphasized the technical aspects of ensuring the road meets required standards.
“We are ensuring that all construction specifications are met to guarantee durability. The community has waited long enough, and we want to deliver a road that will serve them for many years,” she said.
The road project had faced various challenges that led to its stalling for years, causing frustration among residents who had to navigate through poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season when the road became nearly impassable.
Local boda boda rider James Ndungu expressed optimism about the road’s completion, noting how it will improve his business operations.
“This road has been our biggest challenge. During rains, we couldn’t access certain areas, and our motorcycles would get stuck in the mud. Once it’s completed, it will boost our business and make transportation easier for everyone,” Ndung’u said.
The Senior Chief Road construction represents part of the county government’s broader strategy to improve infrastructure across all constituencies, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges.
