The Sh3 billion road project stretching 65 kilometers across three constituencies in Kirinyaga County has reached 77 percent completion.
The project, being undertaken by China Wuyi Company Ltd under Contract No. RWC 549, had construction works resume on April 28, 2025 after months of delay due to pending payments.
The road network covers Mutithi–Kagio/Baricho–Getuya–Kagumo/Kagumo–Kimaina–Gathuthuma–Gatwe/Kimicha–Canal/Ndaba–Kangai/Kandongu–Kangiciri/Kagio–Kathaka–Kiangwaci/Kandongu–Kangiciri–Karira Mission Hospital–Ngurubani sections.
Once completed, it will benefit residents of Ndia, Kirinyaga Central, and Mwea constituencies by easing transport, boosting trade, and enhancing access to health and education facilities.
Currently, the contractor is working on the eight milestone along the Canal–Kangiciri–Ngurubani Road and the 9th milestone along the Baricho–Kiamaina–Gatwe Road, where 47.055 kilometers have already been tarmacked.
The Kirinyaga County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee, chaired by the County Commissioner Hussein Aliso, inspected the project and expressed satisfaction with the quality of works.
The contractor assured the committee that the project will be delivered on time, despite setbacks that saw works stalled in the past due to delayed payments.
