The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) is gearing up for more local, international-friendly matches and events this year, including an anti-doping training seminar in Mombasa later this month.
SJAK was off to a flying start with their football club SJAK FC showcasing a thrilling match against Azam TV, winning 8-2 in a football friendly encounter on Saturday at the Kenya School of Law grounds in Nairobi.
Their stunning 8-2 victory over Azam TV FC has sent shockwaves through the sports fraternity, drawing comparisons to Manchester United’s legendary 2011 win over Arsenal in an English Premier league match.
The game was a masterclass from SJAK FC, with their squad of talented players putting on a show. Steve Ayoo, Mathew Tuta, Stephen Ochieng, Brian Amlyoto, Benson Dibo, Alvin Arocho, and Erick ‘Opong’ Ochieng all contributed to the scoreline, leaving Azam TV football club struggling to keep up.
Salim Ali’s two goals for Azam TV FC were a consolation, but they were not enough to stop SJAK’s FC momentum nor detract from their dominant performance.
SJAK Executive Committee Member Beki Mwamburi, speaking after the match, praised the team’s performance, noting that the thrilling match was more than just a friendly encounter; it was a statement of intent, showcasing their strength, skill, and determination.
“Winning this match with such a humongous margin is an indication of good tidings that are ahead for us,” said Mwamburi, noting that with their sights set on bigger challenges, the future looks bright for this talented squad.
He said that the match was the opening fixture for SJAK that has lined up a number of local and international friendlies this season.
“We have a number of high-end fixtures this year, and so we were using this game to gauge our level of fitness, we have planned for at least two friendly matches every month as we gear up for other international battles,” he said.
Meanwhile, SJAK is set to undergo a four-day Anti-Doping training later in the month in Mombasa to be carried out by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), demonstrating their commitment to fair play and excellence.
