Sosiot ESP Market construction reaches seventy-one percent completion

Construction of the National Government’s Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market in Sosiot town has reached 71.5 percent completion, with significant progress in structural development. The state-funded project now features the main market building, partial installation of internal stalls and washrooms, and basic utilities already in place.

The update was shared during an inspection by a joint team from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, led by the State Department of Housing Regional Structural Engineer, Davis Mwangovi, who confirmed that the project is on track for completion by April 2026.

Belgut Division Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Doronew Wanjala expressed optimism that the market, which began construction in April 2024 under the ESP initiative, will soon provide a safe, organized, and modern environment for traders and shoppers.

The market will include over 200 modern stalls, cold storage units for perishables, mothers’ breastfeeding rooms, disability-friendly walkways, organized spaces for different trader categories, fully equipped men’s and women’s washrooms, and reliable clean water throughout the facility. These amenities aim to enhance hygiene, safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

“This project has employed a significant number of local youth and women, who have contributed technical skills while earning a livelihood. Additionally, suppliers and service providers in the surrounding community benefit indirectly,” said Mr. Wanjala.

Comprehensive security measures, including perimeter fencing, controlled access points, and round-the-clock monitoring, have been implemented to safeguard construction materials and workers, ensuring uninterrupted progress toward completion.

The National Government is also developing two additional ESP markets in Kericho County: Kapkatet Market in Bureti Sub-County at a cost of Sh162,008,145, and Chesinende Market in Kipkelion East at Sh54,696,364, both progressing steadily.

All projects are being executed by Resjos Enterprises Limited under supervision from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, and the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, and Urban Development, ensuring compliance with design and safety standards.

Also present during the inspection tour was Geofrey Ng’eno, representing the area legislator, Nelson Koech.
