Speaker Odilo calls for creation of County Health Club

Busia County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Odilo has called for the establishment of a health club in the County to enhance both physical and mental wellness among the local residents.

Speaking at the County Assembly during the flagging-off ceremony of the County Sports team participating in the County Assembly Sports Association 2025 Games (CASA) before they left for Meru County on Friday, Odilo emphasised the need for a facility that would address the rising concerns around mental health and fitness.

“We need a health club in the county. This will keep our people in good shape physically and mentally. I hope that as leaders of the Assembly, through the Majority Leader, we can engage the Executive to secure funding for the construction of the health club,” he said.

Odilo also reminded the team to uphold discipline throughout the competition period.

“We are going to have fun and play games, but discipline is paramount. As you enjoy, do so with caution. Be mindful of what you do and who you engage with. We are representing the county, so let’s shine in the games,” he added.

Busia County Assembly Acting Clerk Gabriel Erambo said Busia would participate in 19 disciplines for both men and women.

“The County Assembly Service Board has facilitated 54 MCAs, two board members and 106 staff to proceed to Meru for the CASA Games. The Assembly has approved Sh20 million to facilitate our participation,” Erambo noted.

Marachi Central MCA and Chairperson of the Sports, Culture and Social Services Committee Shadrack Masinde called for an increase in the sports’ budget.

“Let’s have equity in allocation for members participating in future games. Everyone should be treated equally regardless of rank or position. We should also begin our practice early enough to ensure we win trophies,” he said.

The 6th edition of the County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) Games will be held from 22nd to 25th November in Meru County.
