SportPesa, FKF launch the SportPesa league 2025/26 season

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and SportPesa have launched the SportPesa League 2025/26 Season, as the 10-year partnership of the top-tier football league in Kenya kicks off this weekend.

Coming weeks after announcing a major boost to Kenyan football, the landmark agreement worth Sh1.12 billion will see SportPesa affirm its support for the growth and development of football in Kenya, offering an opportunity for the participating teams and players to showcase and explore their full potential.

The long-term commitment that starts with Sh85 million in year one, growing steadily to 145 million by year 10, will see the 18 participating clubs receive 60 percent of the sponsorship funds, while the federation will receive 40 percent to run the top tie league.

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri, while speaking during the launch at a Nairobi hotel Tuesday, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the SportPesa League.

“We are thrilled to launch this league today. We have started the journey of the rebuilding phase to go back to the success we achieved together in the past. Football in Kenya will reclaim its lost glory. Over the years, we will steadily make great progress and strides.” he said.

The CEO said that the new format that puts the players’ welfare at the front, will see an enhanced awards and recognition model across the season, culminating in 20 million prize money for the top three clubs at the end of each season.

Joined with the FKF President Hussein Mohammed, FKF National Executive Committee members and the clubs’ chairmen for the launch, the bigger and long-term goal of the league as the feeder into the national team took a bold challenge to have Kenya compete in the World Cup in the next 10 years.

Mohammed said this partnership gives us the stability and resources to build the SportPesa League into one of the continent’s finest, from improved prize money to stronger club structures and better media standards, aimed at raising Kenyan football to the next level.

“Together with SportPesa, we are determined to give our players, clubs and fans the professional and exciting league they deserve,” he said.

The 2025/26 SportPesa League Season officially kicks off on 20th September with a thrilling lineup of fixtures, with live broadcast coverage provided by Azam TV.
